Under the guidance of the Honourable Executive Director, Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, an awareness programme was organized on 30th March 2026 at the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram to observe World TB Day 2026 The programme was conducted by the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram, in collaboration with the Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, under the theme “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People” The event was graced by the presence of distinguished faculty members, Dr Venkateswaran, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Government Ramanathapuram Medical College; and Dr Praveena Daya A, Assistant Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, along with the Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS) staffs from the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram Dr Venkateswaran elaborated on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, management, and counselling aspects of tuberculosis Dr Praveena Daya A highlighted the vital role of community members in TB elimination, emphasizing the importance of reducing stigma and discrimination, as well as early identification of TB symptoms to prevent its spread The programme concluded with a pledge taken by all students and staffs in line with the World TB Day theme The vote of thanks was delivered by the Principal of the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram, marking the successful completion of the event

Dept of Microbiology, AIIMS Madurai organized World TB Day 2026 program. Prof (Dr) Prashant Lavania (President), Prof (Dr) M Hanumantha Rao (Executive Director) & Dr Subitha B (Vice Principal, GMC Ramanathapuram) graced the inauguration A TB-themed quiz for II MBBS (2024 batch) was conducted by Dept of Microbiology, AIIMS Madurai Prelims on 18 Mar & finals on 24 Mar 2026 Students participated enthusiastically. Top 2 teams won prizes; spot quiz winners received medals Dr Mangayarkarasi V (Prof & HOD, Microbiology) delivered a lecture on “Advanced Diagnostic Methods in TB” Dr P Chitra Rajalakshmi (Prof & HOD, SRM Trichy) spoke on “TB Control & Elimination: National & Global Outlook” Microbiology faculty were appreciated.

The session sensitized students and faculty on child protection laws, reporting mechanisms, hospital aids & medical procedures relevant to POCSO cases, reinforcing our commitment to medico-legal awareness.
